The film is based on the true story of a Russian emigrant Lillian Alling who tries to walk the long way home from New York to Russia in the 1920s. A Russian woman in her early 30s comes to New York for a new life but fails to get a job. Even worse, her visa has expired and she decides to walk from New York through Canada, Alaska to Russia.
